Magnolia exploding box

Hello everyone! For this week’s inspiration I prepared 3 3/4” x 3 3/4” exploding box. This box was created with Sweet Magnolia Collection and decorated with Magnolia flowers.

Instructions: Exploding box measures – 3 3/4 inches by 3 3/4 inches by 3 3/4 inches. To create an exploding box base – cut out 11 1/4″ x 11 1/4″ white pearl card and score it at 3 3/4″ and 7 1/2″, rotate and score again at 3 3/4″ and 7 1/2″. Score diagonally from the corner end to the first score lines cross on and repeat the process on other corners. Cut off all the corners diagonally using score line starting points as a guide. Fold using a bone folder along the score lines.

TOP TIP: Use a stylus with 2mm or 3 mm tip (HCST1-401 Deluxe Flower Shaping Kit) to make diagonal score lines.

To decorate an exploding box base – cut out nine 3 5/8” x 3 5/8” pieces from HCDP1-2126 Sweet Magnolia Paper Collection, distress the edges on each piece with Memento Dye Inks: Bamboo Leaves and Lilac Posies using HCDA1-449 Daubers and adhere them to the base as shown. Cut out 2 pieces 3 3/8” x 3 3/8” from HCDP1-2126 Sweet Magnolia Paper Collection, then cut each one of them diagonally to create 4 triangles from each piece. Distress the edges on each piece with Lilac Posies Memento Dye Ink using HCDA1-449 Daubers and adhere them inside of the box as shown. DIe cut four decorative elements from HCGP1-488 Luxe Gold Cardstock using HCD2-7337 Teardrop Lattice Gateway Die, then adhere each of them to 2 3/4” x 3” piece of HCDP1-2126 Sweet Magnolia Paper Collection, cut the excess pieces using scissors and adhere final pieces inside of the exploding box as shown. Stamp the Magnolia branches from HCPC-3949 Sweet Magnolia Buds Cling Stamp Set on HCPP1-475 Deluxe Flower Shaping Paper with Memento Dye Ink Pad – Elderberry, then colour the image with Memento Dye Inks: Rich Cocoa, Lilac Posies and Bamboo Leaves using Tombow Dual Brush Maker N00 Blender. Die cut the images with matching HCD1-7347 Sweet Magnolia Buds Die, shape them using HCST1-401 Deluxe Flower Shaping Kit and adhere them on each of the sides using 3D foam. Stamp the small flowers from HCPC-3939 Cottage Tree ‘scapes Cling Stamp Set on HCPP1-475 Deluxe Flower Shaping Paper with TSMP708 Memento Dye Ink Pad – Olive Grove, then colour the image with Memento Dye Ink Pads – Bamboo Leaves and Rose Bud using 282873 Tombow Dual Brush Maker N00 Blender. Die cut the images with matching HCD1-7333 Cottage Tree ‘scapes Die. Stamp the Magnolia leaves from HCPC-3948 Sweet Magnolia Blooms Cling Stamp Set on HCDP1-2126 Sweet Magnolia Paper Collection with Memento Dye Ink Pad – Cottage Ivy, then colour the images with Memento Dye Ink Pads: Cottage Ivy and Bamboo Leaves , using HCDA1-449 Daubers. Die cut the images with matching HCD1-7346 Sweet Magnolia Blooms Die, shape them using HCST1-401 Deluxe Flower Shaping Kit. Using a sponge, add Designer Dries Clear Adhesive to the flower petals, sprinkle them with Crystal Ultrafine Transparent Glitter 1/2 oz. Stamp the Magnolia petals from HCPC-3948 Sweet Magnolia Blooms Cling Stamp Set on HCDP1-2126 Sweet Magnolia Paper Collection with Memento Dye Ink Pad – Lilac Posies, then colour the images with the same ink using HCDA1-449 Daubers. Die cut the images with matching HCD1-7346 Sweet Magnolia Blooms Die, shape them using HCST1-401 Deluxe Flower Shaping Kit. Assemble Magnolia flower petals using a hot glue gun and make sure to offset them. Use a paper piercer to make a hole in the middle of them and pull some stamens through. Add a bit of hot glue underneath the flower to secure the stamens. Using a sponge, add Designer Dries Clear Adhesive to the flower petals, sprinkle them with Crystal Ultrafine Transparent Glitter 1/2 oz and adhere them on the top of each magnolia branch. Fill in the composition with leaves and small flowers. To create an exploding box lid – cut out 5 7/8″ x 5 7/8″ piece of white pearl card and score it at 1″ and 4 7/8”, rotate and score again at 1″ and 4 7/8”. Create the flaps, fold using a bone folder along the score lines and assemble the lid. Cut out following pieces from the HCDP1-2126 Sweet Magnolia Paper Collection: 4 pieces 7/8” x 3 3/4” and 1 piece 3 3/4” x 3 3/4”. Distress the edges on each Paper Collection piece with Lilac Posies Memento Dye Ink using Daubers and adhere them to the lid as shown. Die cut two shapes from HCGP1-488 Luxe Gold Cardstock using HCD1-7320 Fancy Special Day Die and adhere them on the top of the lid and on the centre of the exploding box base. Stamp the sentiments from HCPC-3935 Fancy Special Day Cling Stamp Set on HCPP1-475 Deluxe Flower Shaping Paper with Memento Dye Ink Pad – Lilac Posies, then adhere it on the top of the matching shape using Dries Clear adhesive.
